Stewart Falls

My Freshman Academy group organized a hike to Stewart Falls today. About 20 of us, including a couple professors, got together and we had a blast! Here's some of the resulting pics:
I also got my calling in the ward. I've landed 2nd counselor in the Sunday School presidency. I don't expect too much difficulty from this because I'm told I'll be helping with class rolls as well as serving as a substitute teacher. I guess I'll find out soon enough!

Just Because......

I'd say my roommate and I get a score of about 9/10 for this one!
I give you the Fridge of Glory:

A few trips to the Creamery and a trip to Target granted us this hunger/thirst-quenching spectacle. We've got everything: 100 otter pops, sprite, fiji water, regular water, top raman, tostitos (times 2), pretzels, ritz, cheez its (crap, it's almost gone), gum, salsa, grapes, this awesome stuff from gogurt called fizzix (and I'm in physics, huge knee-slapper! (basically it's fizzy yogurt)), oyster sauce, sesame oil, and a toblerone.
I dare someone to top this! ;)

Demo Update

The former Cannon Center went down faster than I expected! Here's a few pics of the demolition site:

In other news, I just discovered tunnel singing that happens every Sunday. I can almost guarantee I'll be going back every time this semester! Especially since this will be the closest thing to a choir that I'll be singing in this year.

Hand Issues cont.

(Make sure you've read the previous post before this one ;) )
So apparently something in the last bowling game just wasn't clicking. My FHE group decided to go bowling today :P I wasn't expecting to do any better than last time, but apparently I was wrong! I walked away today with 2 strikes and 3 spares, ending in a score of 116!!! Try and nail that left-handed ;) (right-handed for you lefties, of course) Even though I made it to the glorious 2nd-place podium out of the 11 of us that were playing, the top scorer ended up with a whopping 163! He ended up getting 4 strikes in a row, another strike, and a spare at the end! I'm definitely happy with my group though!

I tried going without my splint today, just because I felt like it :)
This is how close I am to making a fist. I honestly can't make it past this!
And this is the best I can extend my hand out.
I can still play the piano pretty good though! I'm sure given time, I'll get back to pretty much normal, but for now I'm on the 2nd half of the healing process. No longer am I healing the bone, I'm working out the atrophy!

Hand Issues

Well, I just got back from a fun night with some friends of mine. We were going to see some stand-up comedy, but the tickets were sold out...of course......
So we switched gears and we went bowling instead! Good thing I'm still well equipped with my splint on my right hand :/ Compelled to bowl lefty, I walked away with a humbling score of 52 while the highscorer was one of the girls who claims she doesn't ever bowl this good (3 strikes (no turkeys, but one double) and I think a spare or two). She ended up gettting herself a 134! Even more humble pie because I don't think I would've gotten that high even with my right hand!
I did get xrays for my hand yesterday afternoon though (yes mom, I shipped them off). I looked at them for a little bit and my untrained eyes perceived that they looked exactly the same as my very first hand xray :/ but 6 weeks should be pretty much long enough, right?
I did attempt to play a little piano without the splint on this morning and everythng felt fine as far as pain goes. I haven't tried waterfall yet, and I hope I can heal up enough to be able to play it again...especially since my left wrist can't survive through that song without some pain!!!
Hope all's well with everyone!

Close Encounters

Today I attended a regional conference in a completely packed Marriot Center. It was broadcasted to stake centers in the nearby areas and it served as the meeting for 135 stake conferences at the same time! Present was Marlin K. Jensen of the Seventy, Pres. Monson's daughter, Ann M. Dibb of the young women general presidency, Pres. Boyd K. Packer, and Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf! I was quite impressed being in such a close proximity to these inspired individuals. Granted, I was sitting about 130 degrees clockwise of the pulpit, in the upper section, but it was great being able to hear the messages that they gave today. And now I'll finish off the day going to the worldwide broadcast of the CES fireside where Jeffrey R. Holland will be speaking! This is turning out to be one of my more memorable Sundays!

P.S. I am now officially the floor council president!
Don't worry dad, it's not extremely time consuming, it's essentially an activities committee ;)

The Wave Came

So here I sit at the end of my first week of classes, and all I can say is that I can see much work ahead of me. I have a little group of two others that studies together whenever possible and I'm quite certain we've already spent 20ish hours in the library this week! I think that's more straight hours of studying than my entire high school career! When I get done, I'm only weighed down by the fact that there's still more to do after the next deadline and that I could work on it now or later......yeah...

I'm taking 13.5 credit hours: Calculus (I've already AP tested out of it, but Freshman Academy requires I take it anyways), Physics, Book of Mormon, Exploring Engineering Seminar, and Intro to Programming. I'll have you know I've officially moved ahead of my computer programming class by an entire week and a half, and I could push further on my own quite easily ;)
I didn't make it into Men's Chorus, but I'll definitely reaudition in the following years. If enough people here pressure me into it, I'll head into the non-audition choir, but I haven't heard too many great things about it :/
Honestly though, the biggest problem to me right now is how I'm still stuck in this forearm splint! I've had so many chances to impress on the piano (which I somehow managed to do somewhat with my 7 available fingers), and it doesn't help that I'm desperate to practice this new music my mom gave me before she left. They even have private practice rooms in the basement of my dorm and I can't really have a solid practice session! I'm scheduled to get what's predicted to be my last x-ray on the 15th, but no guarantees that I'll be fully healed by then.
Every time I walk by it, the former Cannon Center is continuously being demolished and carted away to make room for an extension to the new Cannon Center. Even now they're still not completely done with the interior and the exterior of the place, but it's still amazingly nice! Rumor has it, a creamery is going into the Cannon Center in the near future!

I Sense A Disturbance

I found out the other day, Provo, Utah has a little bit of bipolar weather as well as Spokane :/ We survived a crazy-and-dark rainstorm in the morning and found sunny clear-blue skies by 1:00 PM! Shortly afterwards I glanced up at one of the nearby mountains and found this:
In case you can't see, that's snow on the peaks to the left ;)
I sense a great ski season just around the corner!
